Swish…in Gulmarg

Who wants to be a millionaire? Well thatā€™s how I felt skiing in Gulmarg šŸ™‚

Gulmarg is a popular ski resort in Kashmir.Ā My friendsĀ and I wereĀ thrilled to try skiing for the first time and could not wait to get there.

The only way to reach the ski slopes of GulmargĀ is via the ropeway.Ā We waited patiently in line for our turn. The place was very crowded and not organized šŸ˜¦

There is a base point before Gulmarg where you rent plastic boots and overcoats due to the snow.

I personally felt it is not required. If you have sturdy walking shoes and are already carrying an overcoat donā€™t rent.

The boots mostly have tiny holes in the sole and you will only find out once you walk in the snow, when your feet get wet and frozenĀ šŸ˜¦

And the rented overcoats may not be clean šŸ˜¦

It was a short ride on the ropeway.Ā I could seeĀ forests below and the melting snow.

There are two levels of the ropeway. The first level takes you to the mountains where you can ski and watch the majestic mountains all around you. This is the most popular level.

Level 1

The second level is higher and you can do the same things, but I guess with better views and lesser crowds.

ThisĀ level was closed due to heavy snowfall so we went toĀ level one.

Level 1 was crowded and chaotic. There were vendors selling food stuff.
Local guides, ski experts, snow sport vendorsĀ kept approaching us asking if we wanted to ski, snow board, sledge etc.

It felt like a local village fair šŸ™‚

We got talking with one of the ski guides andĀ bargained with himĀ before finalizing the deal.

I would recommend not to try any other activity besides skiingĀ as I did not find it good enough to spend my time or money.

Skiing was enjoyable and a great experience. Loved it and would have done it better if the crowds were less. Most of the time I was afraid I would collideĀ into someone and injure them and myself.

I felt like a millionaire skiing ā€¦with my skis, boots, poles, sun glasses and long overcoat šŸ™‚

One more activity ticked off my bucket list.

Do wear sunglasses to escape the harsh glare of the snow. The rolling snow bound slopes are a treat for the eyes.

  1. I felt immense pleasure on hearing from u that u have enjoyed skiing in kashmir.
The long over coat and skiing boots are must for skier or u never know what may happen to u…
Regarding ur view of holes in boots or filthy over coat.yes, that happens in most of the ski shops.I strongly suggest to go for tourist department recognised ski shops….

And at last,u have mentioned here that gulmarg was very much crowded.
Gulmarg is best ski resort in Asia and people from all over the world come here for skiing.
Level 1 is for juniors or i can say for those persons who know nothing about skiing.
Once u pass level 1,u will b promoted for better levels and u will see very few people there…..

    Anyways..
I want u to visit kashmir once again.i will guide u..
    Thanx.
